We are monitoring the conditions of the Chiwaukum Creek fire and, at this point, are planning to continue our summer camp programs as scheduled. Air quality at camp is good, and there is no evidence of smoke and ash.
Although Highway 2 is closed between Leavenworth and Coles corner, the usual roads to Camrec are open. A fuel break has been maintained along the forest service road leading to camp. Also, recent logging activity at Camrec has reduced our risk from wild fires.
The safety of children is a top priority for Camrec. We have an evacuation plan that assigns all campers to vehicles when they arrive. We go over this procedure at the beginning of camp. If conditions worsen, we will not hesitate to take appropriate action.
